Scotland secure Great Britain’s place in 2006 Winter Paralympic
Games
Congratulations to Frank Duffy and his Scotland team who have won the gold medal for
the second year running at the World Wheel Chair Championships, Braehead and secured Great Britain’s place in the 2006 Paralympics
Their of: Frank Duffy (Skip), Michael McCreadie
(Third), Tom Killin ( Second ), Angie Malone ( Lead )
and Ken Dickson ( Alternate ) successfully navigated their second World
Championships without a loss, though there were some seat gripping moments for
the Scotland supporters, with some of their group games going to extra ends. They
had to play Switzerland in Semi Final, a repeat of last years
final. This was another thrilling game which went to an extra end - keeping the
large crowd on the edge of their seats. The final was played against Denmark who had been improving as a team as the week went on.
They had comfortably beaten Sweden 7:1 in the other semi-final and in the final Denmark were leading 6:5 before the final end. Scotland had last stone and were lying
two when the Danish skip came to play his last stone which unfortunately
clipped a short stone and Scotland were World Champions again.
This second successive Gold Medal win will no
doubt make Great
Britain
the favorites for the 2006 Winter Paralympic Games in Torino. We wish Team Great Britain the best of luck next year!
